Statement on Responsible Research Assessment (DORA)
The Kurdistan Journal of Applied Research (KJAR) is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal committed to advancing high-quality research in applied sciences, engineering, medical sciences, and interdisciplinary fields. The journal aims to promote research that contributes to scientific progress, regional development, and global knowledge exchange. In line with this mission, KJAR values research outputs based on their scientific rigor, methodological quality, societal relevance, and scholarly contribution, rather than relying solely on journal-level metrics.
KJAR recognizes the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA), a global initiative dedicated to improving how research outputs are evaluated. DORA encourages institutions, publishers, and funding bodies to move beyond journal-based metrics, such as the Journal Impact Factor, and instead assess research on its intrinsic merit and broader impact.
KJAR endorses the principles of DORA as part of its commitment to responsible and transparent research evaluation. These principles align with the journal’s objective to support equitable assessment practices that recognize diverse scholarly contributions, including interdisciplinary work, regional research priorities, and publications in different languages.
To support the implementation of responsible research assessments, KJAR continues to refine its editorial and review processes. The journal emphasizes the quality of research methods, originality, reproducibility, ethical standards, and potential societal impact during the peer-review process. Editorial policies are periodically reviewed to ensure alignment with international best practices in research integrity, transparency, and responsible evaluation. KJAR also encourages authors to provide comprehensive research outputs, including datasets, methodological details, and reproducibility information where applicable.
The implementation of responsible research assessment principles within KJAR is overseen by the journal’s editorial leadership. Questions regarding this policy or research assessment practices can be directed to the Editorial Office of the Kurdistan Journal of Applied Research (KJAR) via the journal’s official contact channels available on the journal website.
